The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
